Equitable Energy Mixed Income House Initiative Kickoff
September 27 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeCABANNE DISTRICT CDC Equitable Energy Mixed-Income Housing Initiative will bring community leaders, faith-based organizations, elected officials, CDCs, CDFI’S and others to raise awareness of the high energy burdens along with its solutions and Justice 40 initiative announced by President Biden in January 2021. The initiative will provide billions of federal dollars allocated in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and other appropriations that can be accessed to address environmental injustices in disadvantaged communities.
Our kickoff events panel will share with attendees what our plans are to help lessen energy burdens here in the West End neighborhoods and Luther Justice 40 communities. Our community-led effort launched by Cabanne District CDC is to ensure transparency and collaboration between elected CDC, CDFI’S, officials, municipalities, and those who live in disadvantaged communities that the Justice40 Initiative was designed to support.
According to the White House, the Justice40 Initiative, a whole-of-government initiative, ensures that people living with legacy harms are prioritized in our national transition to greener energy sources, cleaner air and water and economic opportunities. The investment categories are: climate change, clean energy and energy efficiency, affordable and sustainable housing.
The selected communities have been impacted by different environmental hazards including; high energy costs, industrial air, and water pollution, slow recovery from natural disasters, residential sewer overflows, and a lack of culturally competent engagement on these issues and their potential health impacts. When we put a face to it, it’s our neighbors, Moms, elders, and children who are feeling this firsthand, and let’s do what’s necessary to help lessen the burdens on them.
